Salamanca is a welcoming city situated in the north west of the Iberian Peninsula, in the Castile and Leon region approximately 200 Km. from Madrid.

The city is pleasant, safe, young open to the world and  yet cosmopolitan whith its population of approximately 180,000.

The University of Salamanca is the oldest university in Spain  and one of the first in Europe. Salamanca is one of the most important student centers in Spain and a reference center for Spanish in the world. 

Approximately 60,000 students from all over the world come to study per year. That is why Salamanca is known as a city which is devoted to university life, fine art, culture, music, entertainment, and leisure.

Salamanca has a rich mixture of architecture and monuments, both classical and modern. It is definitely one of the finest and most important cultural centres in Spain.

After spending the day with Salamanca´s rich culture, you may  spend the night in one of the hundreds clubs and bars that Salamanca offers.

"Salmantinos" (the inhabitants), are welcoming and open and make settling into everyday life in Salamanca easier for foreign students.
